What is Rural-Com's usage policy on dialup?

We have all experienced it at one time or another - a busy signal when you try to dial into the Internet.  Getting a busy signal is annoying.   At Rural-Com, a premium service provider, our goal is to keep you from getting busy signals.  One way we help combat the busy signal problem is stopping the few individuals who want to make a connection and keep it permanently connected.  This ties up a modem - one that others could be dialing into.

There have been a number of "low price - unlimited access" providers in the market.  Many of these have now gone out of business, including some which had dialup access from La Junta!  

Our policy is as follows for Standard and High Speed accounts:

You may use your connection as much as you want!   There are some months you may need to be on for extended hours.  We understand that.  We will not charge you excess charges. However, if you repeatedly go over the amounts listed below, you will be contacted and be subject to changing your account to a dedicated connection.  

  • Standard dial up:       200 hours/month
  • High Speed connection:   300 hours/month

Our goal is to be up front with you about how you can use the system, and that is why we give you specific numbers to go by.  In contrast, other ISP's offer "Unlimited" service but reserve the right to change you over to dedicated when you hit an unspecified usage amount.
